The Irizar Group was awarded the Prize for Excellence in the Company category at the 2nd edition of the Radio San Sebastian Awards.
The ceremony gala for the awards took place this afternoon at the Palacio Kursaal in San Sebastian. It was attended by a large number of guests, which included the other prize winners, the jury, authorities, personalities and representatives of large Basque companies.
The Radio San Sebastian Awards for Excellence are honours that publicly distinguish and recognise people, companies and institutions in Gipuzkoa who excel in their field and are role models in their environments.
This award coincides with the Irizar’s 130th anniversary at a time when they are in a strong and stable financial position that lets them keep advancing and developing new services and solutions to continue guaranteeing a more sustainable future in economic, social and environmental terms.
The reality today of this family business founded in 1889 exceeds anything the founders could have imagined by leaps and bounds. Nowadays, Irizar is a business group that has activities in 6 different business areas, 8 brands and is made up of over 3300 people. It has more than 700 million Euros in billing, a commercial presence on 5 continents, 13 production plants, an R&D centre and 8 of its own distribution and after-sales companies, in addition to sales and after-sales networks around the world.
It’s a global company that, in addition to continuing to manufacture electric buses and coaches, is a supplier of systems for the rail industry and the electronic, energy, electro-mobility and connectivity sectors. It’s a company with high aspirations that keeps moving forward into the future in terms of brand, technology and sustainability.
President of Irizar Gorka Herranz accepted the award with pride saying, “Thank you in the name of everybody at Irizar. It’s very important for us that you thought about Irizar when you brought out our evolution and current position at the forefront of the bus and coach sector. This is an award for the perseverance, and I think doing things right, for many years for the people who have been a part of Irizar and those of us who are working here now. After 130 years, we’re still making headway in this more and more competitive world and we’ve got a lot of challenges in front of us.”
